Hello!
I'm Amani Ariel-Wamala, previously Amani Hayes-Messinger. This site is home to my many creative endeavors, including my family lifestyle photography portfolio, my musings on life in blog form, and recommendations for your next read. Below you can read more about my story, how I got here, and where I think I might be going.
My Story
One day, on the inside of my first book jacket, it will say something like, "Amani Ariel-Wamala is a product manager by day and a writer by heart. She is a graduate of Brown University and The Loft Literary Center’s Year Long Writing Projects (Memoir and CNF), and has essays and articles published in African Voices Magazine and on Blavity.com. Amani is an avid reader, a stress baker, and can spend hours in a kitchen store. She lives, hosts, and plays word games in Brooklyn with her wife and their daughter, her big and tiny reading buddies."

But, you're joining me here, early-on, on my personal website. For that, I cannot thank you enough. In return I'll give you some unpolished tidbits about where I am, where I've been, and where I'm going.

A graduate of Brown University, I double majored in Computer Science and American Studies. My professional career has been spent largely as a technical product manager, learning how to solve problems creatively, efficiently, and collaboratively. In this part of my life, I'm most passionate about unraveling an understanding of the root problems and reconstructing creative solutions that anticipate future changes from the ground up. When I'm not managing products, I've done my best to continue tapping into my creative side and in August, 2023 I quit my job to pursue writing and creating full time.

Currently, the creative bones in my body are pulling me in many directions. As you'll find evidence of across this site, I am a creative nonfiction writer currently working on my debut manuscript, a memoir about what it means to be a family, who gets to decide that, and what happens when someone else chooses for you. I'm also a photographer, honing my family lifestyle photography experience and capturing memories for families in Brooklyn and beyond. In the week between Christmas and New Years you can find me baking, packaging, and delivering over 600 cookies, turning my hobby of whipping out baked goods even the savory friend can't turn down into a cookie delivery business.

When I'm not writing, mixing, or behind the camera, I'm usually reading or mom-ing. As the resident passionate book-ish friend and family member, I've begun developing curated book list recommendations for kids and adults. You can also follow my personal reading journey here. I know, I know... I am still going. Yet a new endeavor to explore: print on demand. What is dropshipping and can I create a side hustle selling on Etsy? We'll see! Check out PintSizeOrganizer on Etsy, where my products range from t-shirts, onesies, hats, mugs, candles, to organizers, totes, and trackers to print on-demand.

I promise that when I'm not doing all these things I am trying really, really hard to be a sane human and thoroughly enjoying the best job in the world: being mom to my joyous and curious one-year-old.
